RE-MINERALIZATION FILTERS
Reverse Osmosis treatment produces extremely pure
water, so pure in fact nearly everything is removed. After all, it is used for
washing impurities from the electronic circuits that are sitting in the very
computer you are using to read this. What does remain is of little use to us
humans.
There is a theory amongst some dieticians that drinking Reverse
Osmosis water is inadvisable.
The thinking is that water will absorb almost
anything, including rocks. (calcium hardness) Many of the trace elements and
minerals we require are found in the water we drink. Now if these are removed
by reverse osmosis treatment, it is possible, they say, this water will
reabsorb elements from the body as it passes through, so depleting it of the
very minerals it needs to maintain good health.
Now it's not all doom and
gloom. Your water is not the only provider of minerals. You may not even have a
domestic reverse osmosis device under your sink, but if you do, and they are
correct, the minerals you put in from other sources are being removed by your
drinking water.
Re-mineralization filters are generally used after Reverse Osmosis
plants or where the water has a pH below 7 and is acid. Generally if tap water
has a pH of 7 then R.O. water will have a pH of about 6 to 6.5. The
re-mineralization filter is used to return the pH to approximately 7 and add
minerals removed by the R.O. device.
It is also used in soft water areas to
add hardness (a form of calcium) to the water.
The element, in addition to
calcite has activated carbon for taste and odour, and includes 20 micron
sediment pads, giving three filters in one element.
The element has a life
of approximately 3,500 litres and a flow rate of 5.5 litres per minute, so it's
a change every six months.

spanner. A Calcite cartridge. A 15mm water pipe piercing mount, a
